Toll House has this written on the packaging to their Nestle Cookie Dough.

Do they not know that the ONLY reason I buy cookie dough is to consume it raw? I mean cookies are great and all, but not as great as cookie dough.

I think Toll House thought you were Lindsey for a second. REMEMBER LINDSEY!!!

Except the “would you live here on $35,000” question still pisses me off.

Because some of us have to/had to.

With sincere curiosity, I want to know HOW ya’ll survived. I honestly can’t comprehend it. $35K in Manhattan??? You could barely live in West Hartford on that, if you want to do anything more then sleep and work.

Do you live in Manhattan? Do you eat? Do your parents help you? How do you look so chic all the time? Are you in debt? My friends in Connecticut ALWAYS talk about how we can’t comprehend how people work entry-level jobs in Manhattan if their parents aren’t helping.

I’m genuinely curious. Please share!

When I was 22/23 I worked at a celebrity pr firm making $29k a year. $29k in NYC! I lived in the city and yes I had help from my momma. The company I worked for had a closet chock full of snacks and towards the end of the month (we got paid once a month) we would mostly consist on snacks from the closet, diet coke and appetizers and cocktails we got at the events we had to work at.

I now make $35k working in publishing in Manhattan. After almost two years and a promotion.

My first full-time job in NYC, the one that enabled me to move to the city, I made $28K. Thinking back I have no idea how I managed. Overtime? And I think the rents footed my cell bill.

I came home to a lovely treat from the even more lovely buildingaladder. If I haven’t said it enough, Caitlin is quality people. While Caitlin and I have never met (YET) I feel so close to her thanks to the internetz. She is fabulous. You all should be so lucky to have a friend like her (and not just because she sends me beautiful hand made goods in the mail).

Thank you so much, Caitlin! The card was hilarious and I may have worn the ornaments as earrings. :)

PS. Go buy things in her etsy shop because I know you are jealous of my coasters.

The Hudson River State Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. A Kirkbride Building.

Built in 1871, this insane asylum opened with 40 patients. In 1952, it was treating 6,000. And in the late 1970’s, it was closed and left to decay.

Matt and I spent all of a freezing, snowy Sunday exploring the male and female wings of this legitimately epic abandoned hospital.

Nothing like the real life problems of two co-workers to put your crappy two weeks and mini breakdown over literally nothing into perspective. So, today instead of focusing on the bummers, because really that is the worst I am dealing with right now - annoying inconveniences, I’m going to look and the awesome stuff:

free bagels and cupcakes
emails from a friend gossiping about another friend trying to kiss her
PG Dexter recaps from imnotthatkindofgirl so that I can know what is going on AND sleep at night
cleaning my desk
throwing away crap that has piled up
my mom who has been writing me emails with stuff like “poor honey” (I think I’m making her feel really bad for me right before Christmas, which is probably unfair - like I said, just annoying inconveniences that I’m not handling well at all)
yummy coffee

My lunch consists of cheetos and half of a brownie left over from the holiday party of my morning class.

Not good for this whole weight loss business, but I don’t care at the moment.

Just to join in on the fun: my lunch will consist of the bagels an intern brought in for everyone on her last day and cupcakes from my co-worker’s morning meeting. Seems well balanced to me!

As some of you may or may not know, I am on the committee for the Chicago Dance Marathon to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. It is an event that has happened at schools across the country and this is the first year we have done it in an urban setting. I’m reaching out to some of my tumblr friends and beyond in the hopes of helping me reach my goal of raising $500 by March 6th for this great cause. I’ve already put $100 of my own money toward the cause. I am offically sick of being sick. And I’m even more sick of pumping dayquil and nyquil in to my body. I think my body has actually developed an immunity to it, so today I’ve researched other home remedies. I found an excellent recipe on Apartment Therapy which utilizes my all time favorite liquor, bourbon. Added bonus, I can use it to make the hot chocolate toddy I posted last week!

Here’s the recipe if anyone out there is feeling under the weather as well

Bourbon Cough Syrup for Grownups
2 ounces bourbon whisky
1/2 lemon, juiced (about 2 ounces)
2-4 ounces water (optional)
1 tablespoon honey

Mix the bourbon, lemon juice, and water (if using) in a tumbler or mug and heat in the microwave for about 45 seconds. (You can also do this on the stovetop in a little saucepan.) Take out and add the honey. Whisk to combine, then microwave for another 45 seconds.

If you’re sick, it’s best not to drink this too hot; a good warm temperature is better. Take it to bed and nurse it slowly with a book in the other hand. Sleep well!

I don’t care how outdated the opening sequence is for You’ve Got Mail, I just adore it. I was trying to find a video of it to post last night, but I couldn’t find one good enough. My co-worker was the location coordinator and cringes every time someone mentions it - I’ve decided that from now on whenever I’m annoyed at him I’m just going to start rattling off a laundry list with everything I love in the film.

Only a few real life, non-tumblr friends know about my little corner here, but I’m pretty sure Nicolette is the only one that checks in at all regularly. I always love getting random emails from her asking about something she saw here. This is her latest response when I elaborated on this post:
